Burdin Mill, Les Menuires
Burdin Mill, Les Menuires
Val Thorens and the nearby resorts of Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville are steeped in local history. To find your bearings and get a sense of the past you could join in on one of the weekly ‘Chemins du Baroque’ guided walking tours. The Notre Dame de la Vie sanctuary and the village church of Saint Martin are two of the highlights that the guides will show you round as well as the historic lanes and buildings of the area. The tours leave every Wednesday from in front of Saint Martin church, prices are from €5-€7.

A recent addition to Saint Martin de Belleville is the Belleville Museum, located in the heart of the village in an ancient Belleville farm. As you wander in and out of the different rooms you will learn about the history of Saint Martin over the past 150 years, as it has evolved from a quiet farming community into a popular holiday resort.

A reminder of the agricultural past can be found at the Burdin Mill in Les Menuires. This historic grain mill has been carefully restored and is open for viewing on Wednesday and Friday mornings. The mechanism of the mill was also restored and you can see it in action as part of a guided tour.

If you fancy travelling a little further afield you can visit the Winter Olympic Games Museum in the nearby town of Albertville. Just 45 minutes by car there are the added attractions of the medieval city of Conflans, the abbey and fort of Tamié, the Roman church in Cléry, the museum of the Combe de Savoie, the fortress of Miolans and more besides...

See our Museums & Exhibits page for further details.
