Val Thorens Food & Drink

Dining & Going Out in Val Thorens
Val Thorens' nightlife is almost as exhausting as its mountain pursuits! With a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafes to keep you well fed and watered there is also a plentiful array of opportunities for a bit of après or late-night venues for a spot of clubbing.
Alpine Food & Drink

Although not as renowned as the haute cuisine of Paris or the fine bistros of Lyon the Alps do have a number of tasty treats in store for those who like to sample some regional specialities. Meat and cheese feature heavily in Alpine cooking – so it’s just as well there are plenty of mountains where you can work off the extra pounds! ... see "Dining in the Alps" for more

Apres Ski
Apres Ski
There are many bars catering for après-ski in Val Thorens and Les Menuires. Le Saloon could possibly be Val T’s best après-ski bar for those of you who know how to party in a truly cosmopolitan environment. With a super friendly international team, this bar is a great place to mix. Big on live music during après ski there is always something going on.

At Le Rendez-Vous in the Rue de Soleil, you can relax in beautiful Savoyarde surroundings, and the Frog and Roastbeef is also very popular.

In St Martin, skiers gather at Les Grangeraies to pick up children from ski-school and then generally gravitate towards the Dahlia or Alp Hotel. Those without children to pick up tend to stay up the mountain to catch the last of the sun at Le Chardon Bleu, Corbeleys or La Loy, before descending, sometimes in the dark, back to the village. Apres-ski can be extended at La Loy or Corbeleys by booking an evening meal. Parties and groups are accommodated and don’t forget your torches for the descent.

Clubs & Bars
Still clubbing in your ski-wear!
Still clubbing in your ski-wear!
Val Thorens is a resort which is very much geared up for young people and there is a wide choice of late night bars/clubs. In the main resort is the famous Malaysia Club on Place Caron, allegegly the biggest nightclub in the Alps. El Gringo's Café is spread over three floors and has regular DJ's, live music and reggae nights.

Les Menuires has two discotheques, Le New Pop in La Croisette and Le Leeberty in Reberty, as well as many lively bars. La Grotte du Yéti is one of a chain of bars that are popular throughout the Alps; frequented mainly by the Dutch they are known for their crazy parties and theme nights.

For a change from the usual cheesy Euro-Pop head for Le Baramix in Saint-Martin for a dose of electro, techno and whatever else their resident DJ is playing that night. Saint-Martin also has several bars, the Pourquoi-Pas being very popular and it is open until 1 or 2am. A late bus runs up the mountain on Fridays and Saturdays, but bizarrely, last season, it needed to be booked two weeks in advance!

Restaurants in Val Thorens
The variety of cuisine to be found in the Belleville valley will suit everyone’s tastes, from simple filled baguettes to Michelin Star restaurants, pizzas and cassoulets to Indian and Thai options. In Val Thorens alone there are over 70 restaurants and bars offering Savoyard specialities such as tartiflette, raclette and fondues as well as traditional and regional French cuisine. Last year Jean Sulpice gained Europe’s highest Michelin Star for his cuisine at the Oxalys, his menu de La Lauze is 46€.

Further down the Belleville valley in Reberty above Les Menuires, the Ours Blanc offers superb home-made pizzas on its sun-blistering terrasse, or Chez Alfred’s is a place where time has stood still – be warned –it's cash only, and that’s if you can find it. On down towards St Martin, you will find several restaurants on-piste serving very good traditional food, and a quick detour off-piste will take you down to the valley’s second Michelin star restaurant, La Bouitte in St Marcel - a lift back to the ski lift included. The centre of St Martin has several restaurants and bars, all of which are very popular.

It is very important to book at any restaurant in the busy season, and even more so if you are a large group, or you may end up disappointed. Remember that chalet girl’s night off is usually Wednesday, so this night is particularly busy. Check out our Dining & Going Out Listings for contact details.

Child Friendly Restaurants
The French love children and it's rare to have a bad experience in any restaurant throughout the Three Valleys. Le Rendez-Vous in Val Thorens is particularly good and has a good selection on their children’s menu, Restaurant-bar Le Grand Lac at the foot of the Granges chair has staff who have a great rapport with children, and its situation is a good stop-off on a return to Val Thorens, and down in the St Martin village, the Pizzeria La Voute opposite the church caters extremely well for children.
