Val Thorens Events - Summer
|
There are heaps of events held throughout the year in Val Thorens and the Three Valleys, ranging from small and quirky local festivals, to world renowned sporting events. Music festivals are also hugely popular during the summer months and provide a great excuse to make a quick trip out to the Alps. | Three Valleys MTB Competition - early July |
The Three Valleys Mountain Bike Competition (3VTT) takes place across Méribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens with a variety of events and races that are open to all. There is something to suit everyone, from a timed descent from the top of the Saulire down to Bride-les-Bains to a 70km 'Rando Tour' that you can complete in its entirety or in sections.
There are circuits at all levels of the valley and, thanks to the lift system, you don't have to be super-fit to access them all!

| Chess Festival - mid July |
The Chess Festival is internationally famous and regularly attracts chess star champions and future champions, such as Gata Kamsky, Rustam Kasimdzhanov (FIDE World Champion in 2004) and the best French players such as Joël Lautier, Etienne Bacrot, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (French champion in 2007 at 16 1/2 years old). In 2008, the festival will run from 19th to 27th July.

| Tour de France - mid July |

Every summer France is gripped by the biggest and best cycle race in Europe - Le Tour de France. The Alps have played a large part in the race over the years with the gruelling mountain climbs providing some of the most exciting spectacles of the event. The route changes slightly each year, taking in different towns and villages along the way. Even if the race doesn't pass near to where you are this summer you can guarantee that it will still be avidly watched in bars and cafés around the country with everyone joining in to cheer on the famous yellow jersey! ... see "Le Tour de France" for more |

| Maxiavalanche - late July |
If downhill mountain biking is your thing, get yourself to Val Thorens this July - they are hosting one of the stages of the legendary Run Marathon MTB: MAXIAVALANCHE ®, Pro-Ams race.
The weekend begins with the official testing on Saturday morning and race ranking in the afternoon. Sunday sees the 1st and 2nd heats of the race itself; featuring 15km downhill descents plummeting 1200m the best can expect to finish in around 30 minutes! The riding will be technical and fast with lots of tight turns and steep drops taking you from the foot of the glacier at 3000m down to Peclet at 1800m.
