Val Thorens Apres Ski Report: 22nd March 2012

What to do from now until the end of the season

As we approach the end of another month there is still plenty going on for all of you snow lovers in Val Thorens.

The weather is perfect….sunny, blue skies with not a cloud in sight and low temperatures mean that the snow is in great condition for a mid-season getaway. There are different promotional offers on throughout resort, too, so now is the time to get a good offer on a late deal.

As for entertainment, there are a variety of events lined up for the end of the season….

This weekend sees the long awaited French Ski Cross and Slopestyle championships arrive in resort – come and see pro-skiers race along a 600m track or show off their freestyle skills with impressive jumps and tricks.

Next is the well known Festi Val Tho from 27 – 29 March returning for the fifth year running. Enjoy free DJs & music concerts of different genres on the pistes during the day and in resort during the night. There will also a Big Air and Big Air Bag for experienced riders to test their skills.

Onto April, and with the holidays comes the children’s Easter egg hunt. Chocolate and Easter bunnies galore, there are surprises all week for children in resort.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary on 9 April is the 3 Valleys ENDURO (formally 3 Valleys X-Wing Rally). This ski competition is unique to Val Thorens and is open to anyone who wishes to participate. All abilities are catered for (professional, amateur, families…) and the rally is the biggest gathering of amateur skiers to be organised in Europe with over 1500 participants. Enjoy an exciting ski day in all 3 valleys (8 different resorts) and the new events that have been created for this year : Giant slalom “Emile Allais” in Courchevel, Moon Ride moguls in Meribel & the Adri’Naline Tetras piste in Val Thorens.

Charity event KONTUM Snowboard is back on 21 & 22 Avril. Live music and sporting events all in aid of Vietnamese charity organisation Kontum. Profits go towards ethnic minorities in the Kontum region, and more specifically those who live in the mountains and struggle to properly develop agricultural or traditionally cultural projects.

For those of you here on 23rd April, the Tourist Office will gladly accept any volunteers for the resort SPRING CLEAN! As the snow starts to melt, there is a significant amount of rubbish to be cleaned up…after an energising breakfast together and armed with bin bags, the volunteer team heads out to get the resort clean and tidied up for the end of the season – EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Finally, the famous Dutch week. See Val Thorens transformed in celebration of the Dutch Queen’s birthday - a popular and lively event that signifies the end to another winter season.
