Val Thorens' Summer Season Has Started

The lifts are running & summer has well & truly arrived

There's been a changeover in the Three Valleys and rather than transporting skiers and snowboarders the ski lifts in Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville are now taking bikers and walkers up the mountain!

The Val Thorens lifts [Cairn, Caron, Cime Caron and Moutiers] have really straightforward opening days from Monday to Friday. Yesterday I took a trip up Caron and Cime Caron up to 3200m. Finally finding some fresh air after these lovely sunny days we’ve been having here in the mountains. The view at the top is somewhat different to the snow covered mountain tops but provides a great 360 degree point to see down the Val Thorens Valley and then across to Italy. The Caron Freeride Café is open at the top of Cime Caron with a summer menu and deckchairs to take in the view.

If the kids think that a days’ walking doesn’t sound all the fun then head down to Bruyeres in Les Menuires where you can hear the squeals of all the cars flying round Speed Mountain, a mini roller-coaster in the mountains. The toboggan on rails has a 1000m track and there are timing points and also a photo at the end. At only 4 euros it’s a great attraction and don’t worry it’s not just for kids, adults can join in too!

Also, down in Bruyeres you can try shooting some arrows in archery practice, play a game of basketball or get peddling on a go-kart. There are a couple of great bars and restaurants to enjoy a coffee in the sunshine whilst the kids tire themselves out.

There is also a new wellness centre located in Bruyeres with swimming pool, Jacuzzi and hammam if you find some time to relax. If you don’t fancy biking down the mountain then you can give aquabike a go with classes throughout the week at the swimming pool.

A holiday in the mountains isn’t always what you think, there’s really a great range of activities on offer. If however you are an amateur or even serious biker you can take part in the 3 Valleys Addict Tour this weekend with the 3 Valleys Free Rando on Sunday. Also, new this year you can opt for the 3 Valleys E-Rando and try out the route on an electric bike, sounds good to me!
