Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort, made up of three main villages: Val Thorens, Les Menuires and Saint-Martin de Belleville. There is a good public transport system in winter and summer linking Val Thorens and each of the different villages in the Belleville Valley, as well as over to the neighbouring resorts of Courchevel and Méribel, via Moutiers.

Airport bus services to Moutiers and Val Thorens

Below is information on getting to Moutiers from the airport if you haven't booked a transfer in advance. The closest bus station to Val Thorens is in Moutiers, the town at the bottom of the mountain. This is also where you will alight if you are coming by train. Buses from the nearest airports usually stop at Moutiers, from where you can catch a connecting bus to Val Thorens and other destinations in the Belleville Valley (see above).

  • Buses from Chambery airport operate twice a day on Saturdays and once on Sundays during the ski season. It takes around 1h15 to get to Moutiers, and then a further 1h15 to 1h30 to get up to Val Thorens, stopping at St Martin de Belleville and Les Menuires en route.
  • Buses from Lyon airport run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the ski season and take around 3h45 to get to Val Thorens, also changing at Moutiers. They operate once a day on Fridays and Sunday and four times a day on Saturdays.
  • Buses from Grenoble airport operate on Saturdays and Sundays in winter and are scheduled to meet arriving flights. It takes around 2h to 2h30 to get to Moutiers from where you pick up a connecting bus onto Val Thorens.
  • Buses from Geneva airport operate every day in winter, with eight buses on Saturdays, four on Sundays and three on all the other days of the week. This route takes approximately 2h to Moutiers where you will then change onto a connecting bus to Val Thorens.

Val Thorens local buses

There is a free shuttle bus service that operates in and around Val Thorens from 08:00 to 20:00, seven days a week in winter. There are two circuits: Red and Green.

The Green Line is the most comprehensive one that runs every 20 minutes from the Gare Routiere and does a full circuit of the resort.

The shorter Red Line is a 10 minute circuit between the Gare Routiere and Parking P3 beside the UCPA (and Parking P4 when open). Buses run every 30 minutes on Saturdays and around hourly during the rest of the week.

Val Thorens regional buses

If you wish to explore a little further afield during your stay, then there are public buses connecting Val Thorens to Moutiers, the nearest town, from where you can take onward services to the neighbouring ski resorts of Courchevel and Méribel. The service that operates within the Belleville Valley also stops at Saint-Jean de Belleville, Saint-Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens.
